About this asset
A 4th-century baptismal font (Gurn El-Ma'moudiya) displayed inside the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, known as Abu Serga, one of the oldest Christian churches in Egypt located in Coptic Cairo (Mar Girgis). The large stone basin features a carved Coptic cross in relief on its exterior and is topped with a decorated terracotta rim, with a small identifying plaque placed on top. Abu Serga is traditionally believed to have been built over the crypt where the Holy Family rested during their flight into Egypt, making this site one of the most spiritually significant Coptic Christian landmarks in Cairo.
