Young male students wearing white galabeyas and red tarboush (Tarbouش) hats sit at wooden desks facing a teacher standing before a whiteboard inside a modest classroom at an Al-Azhar affiliated religious school in Qena, Upper Egypt. Al-Azhar schools are part of Egypt's oldest and most prestigious Islamic educational institution, providing religious and academic instruction to students across Egypt. The tarboush worn by Al-Azhar students is a recognized symbol of traditional Islamic education in Egypt.
