Aerial view of hundreds of male students wearing traditional Azhari uniforms — galabiya (جلابية) and red-and-white taqiyya (طاقية) caps — standing in organized rows during the morning assembly at an Al-Azhar affiliated school in Qena, Upper Egypt. Al-Azhar schools are part of Egypt's oldest and most prestigious Islamic educational institution, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, which has been a center of Islamic learning since 970 AD. The outdoor assembly takes place in a sandy courtyard surrounded by trees, reflecting the daily school routine common across Azhari institutions throughout Upper Egypt.
