An Al-Azhar (الأزهر) teacher dressed in a traditional gallabiya and white Azhari cap leans toward a student in a rural classroom in Qena, Upper Egypt. Male students seated at wooden desks wear the distinctive red-and-white Azhari cap (Taqiyya), the uniform of Al-Azhar religious schools across Egypt. Al-Azhar schools are part of the oldest and most prominent Islamic education institution in the world, providing religious and academic instruction to students from primary level onward.
