Close-up black and white photograph of the bulbous stone finial crowned with a metal crescent atop the minaret of Al-Muayyad Sheikh Mosque, with a bird perched on the crescent. The mosque, built in the early 15th century during the Mamluk period, is located on Al-Ghouriya Street beside Bab Zuweila in Islamic Cairo. The decorative battlements and carved stonework at the base of the finial reflect classic Mamluk architectural craftsmanship.
