A male performer gestures toward a traditional Aragooz (أراجوز) hand puppet dressed in colorful embroidered fabric during a live folk performance at Beit El Sehemy in Islamic Cairo. Aragooz is a centuries-old Egyptian street puppet tradition featuring a comedic character, historically performed at public celebrations, Moulids (موالد), and cultural festivals. Beit El Sehemy is a preserved 17th-century Ottoman-era merchant house in the Al-Gamaleya district, regularly used as a venue for traditional Egyptian performing arts.
