A young student wearing a traditional white galabiya (gown) and a white Azhari skullcap stands in front of a green chalkboard covered in Arabic script and numbers, inside an Al-Azhar affiliated school in Qena, Upper Egypt. Al-Azhar schools (Maahad Azhari) are part of Egypt's oldest Islamic educational institution, combining religious curriculum with standard academic subjects. These schools are widespread across Egypt, particularly in Upper Egyptian governorates such as Qena.
