About this asset
The Bat Well (Bir El Watawit) inside Gayer-Anderson Museum (Beit El Kritliya), located adjacent to the Ibn Tulun Mosque in Sayeda Zeinab, Cairo. The well is set within a stone-arched alcove with original rope-and-pulley mechanisms still in place and a Mashrabeya (traditional wooden lattice screen) fitted into the upper opening. According to local legend, a lover who gazes into the well's waters on a full moon night will see the reflection of their beloved.
