Raw wood logs are stacked in a large pile next to a charcoal kiln pit filled with black charcoal residue, with a shovel planted in the ground at a traditional charcoal production site in Bilbeis, Sharqia Governorate, Egypt. The scene shows the early stage of the charcoal-making process, where wood is loaded and burned inside earthen kilns (مكامير) by workers under harsh outdoor conditions. Charcoal production in this area remains an active traditional trade and a primary source of livelihood for local workers and their families.
