Two male workers handle charcoal-covered material at an open-air charcoal kiln (makmara) production site in Bilbeis, Sharqia Governorate, Egypt. Large stacked wood logs and blackened ground cover the site, with industrial buildings and heavy smoke visible in the background. Charcoal production through traditional kilns remains an active trade and source of livelihood for workers and families in the Sharqia region.
