A child stands inside a retail shop in Al-Manshiya, Alexandria, surrounded by rows of colorful school backpacks covering the walls and shelves floor to ceiling. The bags feature popular children's cartoon characters and come in a wide range of sizes and colors targeting primary school students. This type of back-to-school shopping scene is common across Egyptian markets every September as families prepare for the new academic year.
