About this asset
The nave of the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga) in Coptic Cairo (Misr El Qadima), one of the oldest Christian churches in Egypt, believed to have been built over the cave where the Holy Family rested during their flight to Egypt. The interior features exposed brick walls, a carved wooden ceiling, rows of wooden pews, a decorated iconostasis screen, and stained glass windows, with visitors walking through the central aisle. The church is located in the Mar Girgis (Saint George) area of Old Cairo, a historic district home to some of the earliest Coptic Christian heritage sites in the world.
