About this asset
The Citadel of Qaitbay (Qal'et Qaitbay) stands prominently on the Mediterranean coastline in the Bahri district of Alexandria, Egypt, viewed from the Eastern Harbor with fishing boats and leisure yachts moored in the foreground. Built in 1477 AD by Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria — one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — the fortress remains one of Egypt's most significant coastal heritage landmarks. The harbor setting captures the coexistence of Alexandria's maritime working life and its rich urban heritage.
