About this asset
One of the two Colossi of Memnon stands prominently on the West Bank of Luxor, Egypt, depicting Pharaoh Amenhotep III wearing the double crown (Nemes headdress) and broad collar (Usekh), carved from quartzite sandstone during the 18th Dynasty of the New Kingdom, circa 1350 BCE. The statue shows weathering and surface erosion across its upper torso and face, with remnants of original red pigment still visible. The Theban limestone cliffs of the necropolis rise dramatically behind the statue, with sparse acacia trees visible at the base, a setting that has defined the Theban West Bank landscape for over three millennia.
