A documentary-style photograph capturing an Egyptian boatman repairing the engine of a traditional river boat in Dakahlia, one of the Nile Delta’s important agricultural and fishing regions. The scene reflects the hard work and technical skill required to maintain boats that remain essential for transportation, fishing, and daily movement across canals and waterways. The boatman carefully works on the exposed engine surrounded by water, ropes, tools, and the textures of rural river life. Traditional boats continue playing a central role in many Delta communities, connecting villages, fishermen, and farmlands through Egypt’s historic network of canals and branches of the Nile. The image highlights the relationship between local workers and the river, documenting a profession deeply tied to the rhythm of everyday life in rural Egypt.
