An Egyptian male potter kneels on the floor of a rustic workshop, carefully hand-shaping a large unfired clay vessel using a scraping tool. Multiple raw earthenware pots in various stages of completion surround him, along with a bucket of clay slip and a low turntable base. His clothing is heavily stained with clay, reflecting intensive hands-on craft work. Traditional hand-thrown pottery (Fakhkhar) is one of Egypt's oldest surviving crafts, with major production centers in Fustat (Old Cairo), Fayyum, and Aswan.
