An elderly Egyptian potter works a clay vessel on a hand-operated pottery wheel inside a rustic, dust-covered workshop surrounded by unfired clay pots and tools. The craftsman's clay-covered hands and worn clothing reflect active, hands-on traditional pottery production. Handmade pottery (Fakhara) is one of Egypt's oldest surviving crafts, with roots in Pharaonic civilization and continuing today in villages and artisan workshops across the country.
