An Egyptian male artisan shapes a large unfired clay jar (Zir) using both hands on a pottery wheel inside a rustic workshop, with finished and unfinished clay vessels visible around him. His clay-covered clothing and focused technique reflect generations of traditional Egyptian pottery craft. Hand-thrown earthenware pottery remains a living craft tradition across Egypt, particularly in villages such as Fakharin in Fustat, Cairo, and Upper Egyptian pottery centers.
