A man in a plaid shirt stands at the water's edge on a sandy beach in Alexandria, Egypt, overlooking several moored wooden fishing boats on a choppy Mediterranean Sea. Waves break over rocky outcroppings in the background, and scattered debris is visible along the shoreline. Alexandria's Mediterranean coastline has historically supported an active artisanal fishing community, with small motorized boats typical of local fishermen operating along the city's shores.
