About this asset

View along the colonnaded arcade (riwaq) of Ibn Tulun Mosque in the Al-Khalifa district of Cairo, showing rows of pointed stone arches supported by brick piers with engaged columns, and the iconic spiral minaret visible in the background across the open courtyard. Built between 876–879 CE during the Abbasid period under Ahmad ibn Tulun, the mosque is one of the oldest surviving Islamic monuments in Egypt and displays distinctive Samarran architectural influence. The mosque's vast open sahn (courtyard) and continuous arcaded porticos make it one of the most architecturally significant Islamic landmarks in Cairo.
