Close-up detail of a deteriorating carved wooden cenotaph (Tabut) resting on a stone base inside Prince Taz Palace on Al-Saleeba Street, Old Cairo. The cenotaph shows remnants of carved decorative motifs and Arabic calligraphic inscriptions, with visible wood decay and damage indicating age. To the right, a richly painted polychrome wooden ceiling panel displays Mamluk-era geometric and arabesque patterns in dark red, blue, and gold tones, with an Arabic calligraphic frieze visible along its lower edge. Prince Taz Palace was built in 1352 CE during the reign of the Mamluk Sultan, and is one of the few surviving medieval palatial structures in Cairo, now preserved as a heritage site under the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.
