About this asset
The grand reception hall of Mohamed Ali Palace (Qasr Mohamed Ali) in Manial, Cairo, displays an elaborate interior combining European Baroque and Ottoman decorative styles, characteristic of late 19th and early 20th century Egyptian royal residences. The hall features a striking radial gold sunburst ceiling installation, ornate gilded wall mirrors and sconces, marble floors, and rows of red velvet ceremonial chairs lining both sides of a central corridor. Mohamed Ali Palace in Manial was built between 1899 and 1929 and served as the residence of Prince Mohamed Ali Tewfik, and is today preserved as a museum under the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.
