About this asset

Inside the hypostyle hall of the Ramesseum, the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Ramesses II built during the 19th Dynasty (circa 1279–1213 BC) on the West Bank of Luxor, two large Osiride statues stand against hieroglyph-inscribed square pillars, depicting the pharaoh in the form of the god Osiris with arms crossed and royal regalia. Massive papyrus-bundle columns with carved hieroglyphic reliefs frame the scene, while sandstone-paved flooring with scattered stone fragments fills the foreground. The Ramesseum is one of ancient Egypt's most significant New Kingdom temples, dedicated to the cult of Ramesses II and the god Amun.
