Workers at the Minya Quarries in the Eastern Mountain region of Minya Governorate load white limestone bricks onto a cargo truck, part of a grueling workday that begins as early as 3:00 a.m. The quarry site is blanketed in white stone dust, with workers dressed in light protective clothing as they manually handle the heavy blocks. The extraction and manufacturing of white limestone bricks in this area represents a critical but hazardous informal labor sector in Upper Egypt.
