About this asset

Visitors rest and walk through the nave of Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church, known in Arabic as Abu Serga (أبو سرجة), located in the Coptic Cairo district of Mar Girgis. The church, one of the oldest in Egypt dating to the 4th–5th century AD, features characteristic red-brick arcades, marble columns, a carved wooden iconostasis, and traditional hand-woven carpets covering the floor. Abu Serga is venerated as the site where the Holy Family rested during their flight into Egypt, making it one of the most significant pilgrimage churches in Egyptian Christian history.
