A Sufi Tanoura (التنورة) dancer performs at the open-air courtyard stage of the Cairo Opera House (Dar Al-Opera), illuminated by stage lighting against the dramatic red-lit main building at night. A full orchestra accompanies the performance while a large seated audience surrounds the circular stage. Tanoura is a traditional Egyptian Sufi whirling dance rooted in Sufi spiritual practice, performed in flowing white and colored skirts that fan outward during the spin.
