About this asset

The carved chevron-patterned stone dome of Sultan Faraj Ibn Barquq Mosque (Al-Sultan Faraj Ibn Barquq) photographed from below against a clear blue sky, framed by pine trees in the Mamluk Cemetery (Al-Qarafa Al-Sharqiya), Cairo. Built in the late 14th to early 15th century during the Burji Mamluk period, the complex is one of the finest examples of Mamluk funerary architecture in Egypt, located in the Desert of the Mamluks (Sahara Al-Mamalik) along Salah Salem Road in Manshiet Nasr. The intricately carved zigzag stonework on the dome is a hallmark of Mamluk craftsmanship, representing a peak period of Islamic architecture in Cairo.
