Visitors stand in the open courtyard before the grand facade of the Mohamed Ali Mosque (Mosque of Alabaster) inside the Citadel of Saladin (Qalat Salah El-Din), Al-Khalifa district, Cairo. Built in the Ottoman style between 1830 and 1848, the mosque features a large central dome, smaller flanking domes, and two pencil-shaped minarets that dominate the Cairo skyline. The mosque is one of Egypt's most visited Islamic landmarks and is visible from much of the city below.
